Mexico’s Economy Secretary to report on foreign investment

Mexico City, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's Economy Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, will report on the increase in foreign direct investment, as well as the progress in trade negotiations with the United States.

“Tomorrow, Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard will be here to talk about the increase in foreign direct investment, a very significant number,” Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced at her usual press conference.

From the National Palace, the mayor stated that the Secretary will also be able to address all the work that has been done, mainly with the United States’ trade agreements.

“These are almost daily working sessions with them, which are nearing completion. So, Marcelo can tell you more about it there, but we are making very good progress,” she affirmed.

In a context marked by the United States’ controversial tariff policy, Ebrard predicted in mid-October the continuation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (USMCA) and the arrival of “new opportunities” for Mexico as a result.

Faced with what many categorize as a new trade order, the official highlighted Sheinbaum’s strategy, aimed at ensuring that Mexico has the best relative position in the U.S. market, protecting foreign investment, and maintaining export capacity.

Thanks to this strategy and the mayor’s leadership, he maintained, more than 80 percent of this Latin American nation’s exports to its northern neighbor remain tariff-free, as they are included in the USMCA, comprised of Mexico, the two countries, and Canada.
