Seven Costa Rican migrants have died on their way to the US

San Jose, November 19 (Prensa Latina) The pursuit of the so-called “American Dream” has claimed the lives of seven Costa Ricans since 2020, according to local media reports.

The victims include six who died while irregularly crossing the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, a deadly route for migrants from various countries on the border between Mexico and the United States, and a seventh in Brooks County, Texas, the newspaper Extra reported.

The Costa Ricans who lost their lives were affected by extreme temperatures, which cause hypothermia and dehydration, according to a report by the organization No More Deaths, which documents thousands of migrant deaths in that border region, the newspaper explained.

The Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office in that state documented the deaths of 4,000 foreigners over the past 25 years, including four of Costa Rican origin, although victims of that nationality are rare in this area, according to the office’s medical examiner, Gregory Hess.
