Colombia commemorates anniversary of final peace agreement signing

Bogota, Nov 20 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization (ARN) commemorates the 9th anniversary of the signing of the 2016 Final Peace Agreement with a series of activities.

The events are being held at Maloka Interactive Center, in western Bogota, where attendees can participate in talks with peace signatories, keynote speeches, and panels with academicians and peacebuilding experts, as well as learn the unique aspects of different initiatives undertaken by the former guerrilla fighters.

A large-format photo exhibition, artistic performances, documentary premieres, and an audiovisual screening are part of the program entitled “12,000 Reasons to Continue.”

The ARN noted that the program is designed to become a symbolic journey along the path the peace signatories have traveled since 2016.

Figures from that organization stated that nearly 12,000 former guerrilla fighters remain steadfast in their commitment to peace, amid challenges such as stigmatization, security risks, and disinformation.

The signing of the Final Peace Agreement, which took place at Colon Theater in this capital on November 24, 2016, marked the end of nearly four years of negotiations in Cuba and more than 50 years of armed conflict with the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP).
