Images disseminated by Syrian media and social media users showed eight Israeli aircraft flying over the south of the country, as well as over the provinces of Homs and Hama, in addition to areas of the Mediterranean coast.
According to the same sources, these incursions coincided with overflights by Israeli planes over Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
The new Israeli provocations occurred just one day after a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accompanied by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, to the buffer zone in Syria, as reported by Israel’s Channel 12.
The incursion generated widespread condemnation in the Arab and international community.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned what it called Netanyahu’s “illegal visit,” stating that it “represents a serious violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The United Nations, for its part, expressed concern over the escalation and stressed the need to avoid actions that increase tensions in the region.
