Russia ready for retaliation against Norwegian vessels

Moscow, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Russia would take reprisals against Norwegian vessels accessing its economic zone if the restrictions imposed by Oslo are not lifted, Vasily Sokolov, Deputy Director of the Federal Fisheries Agency, announced.

“We will raise the issue of illegal sanctions against Russian companies; in fact, this constitutes a violation by Norway of its obligations under the agreements.

We will negotiate with them. If we cannot find a mutually acceptable solution, we will likely prevent their entry into our economic zone,” Sokolov stated.

The deputy director recalled, during a press conference held in the context of the Volga-Caspian Scientific and Industrial Council meeting in Astrakhan, that Norway had already imposed sanctions on the Russian fishing companies Norebo and Murman Seafood, prohibiting them from fishing in the country’s economic zone.

According to him, the Russian-Norwegian Fisheries Commission will meet from December 8 to 12 to discuss the illegal sanctions against Russian companies.

In turn, Russia, will seek protection on the intergovernmental agreements between Russia and Norway, in force since the 1970s.

“Although, of course, there are difficulties, precisely because the number of our vessels in Norwegian waters is greater than theirs in ours,” the deputy director of Rosrybolovstvo explained.

The Volga-Caspian Scientific and Fisheries Council meeting will be held in Astrakhan on November 20 and 21, 2025.
