In his address at the first session of the meeting of leaders of the diverse bloc, the Prime Minister celebrated South Africa’s G20 presidency, which he described as commendable and a driving force behind the initiatives adopted at the 2023 New Delhi Summit.
He noted that significant work was done on issues such as skilled migration, tourism, food security, artificial intelligence, the digital economy, innovation, and women’s empowerment.
Modi pointed out that over the past few decades, the G20 has shaped global finance and economic growth; however, he added, the growth parameters defined so far have left a large population deprived of resources and have fostered the overexploitation of nature, with Africa being one of the regions most affected in this sense.
Therefore, he advocated for rethinking development parameters, guided by the values of Indian civilization, such as Integral Humanism.
“This means that we must consider human beings, society, and nature as an integrated whole. Only in this way will harmony between progress and nature be possible,” he stated.
The Indian Prime Minister also proposed establishing a Global Repository of Traditional Knowledge within the G20.
