In this book, the celebrated choreographer, who is also the brother of the renowned ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, shares his memoirs in an exceptional account of the 20th-century world art scene and the stars of Russian ballet.
His life has been intertwined with dance in Cuba. In 1963, as part of a cultural agreement with the Caribbean island, the Ministry of Culture of the then Soviet Union allowed Plisetski to join the National Ballet of Cuba as Alicia Alonso’s principal partner, with whom he remained for eight of the ten years he spent in the country.
During that period, he taught at Havana Ballet Academy, which he combined with his commitments as a dancer, and developed as a choreographer.
In those years, he created ballets such as La Avanzada (1964), Primer Concierto (1971), and Canto Vital (1973), his most important choreographic work, which continues to be part of the Cuban repertoire and has also been incorporated into the repertoires of other companies.
