This stance, published by the Anadolu agency, was expressed by the president during a press conference at the end of the G20 Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Erdogan noted that his country maintains a “firm” support for the Palestinian cause “without fear of anyone, ” and affirmed that Turkiye will continue to defend the rights of the Palestinian people in all international forums.
He also emphasized that, in his opinion, it is “not possible to ignore” what he called genocide in Gaza and the rest of Palestine, holding the Israeli government and its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible for the situation in the enclave.
The leader reiterated his view that “the war in Gaza is a genocide,” statements made in the context of deep international concern over the number of civilian casualties in the Strip.
During his press conference, Erdogan praised South Africa’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and highlighted what he described as a “corageous and exemplary” position regarding Israeli military operations in Gaza.
He also conveyed his congratulations to the South African government for its initiative at the International Court of Justice, where Pretoria filed a case against Israel concerning alleged acts of genocide, a move that Ankara has supported in various diplomatic settings.
