The Festival’s Executive Director, Elias Jimenez, explained at a ceremony held at the National Palace of Culture in this capital that they moved up a ceremony, usually held at the closing, for a special reason.

Jimenez noted that members of the Federation of Latin American Schools of Image and Sound (FEISAL) are in the country, and therefore decided to award the Icaro of Honor to “The Utopia of the Eye and the Ear,” the name of the school first directed by Fernando Birri.

He explained that the EICTV in San Antonio de los Banos has enabled the entire region to have filmmakers, not only through its regular program but also through the workshops it offers.

The filmmaker, producer, and founder of the Festival added that the idea conceived by Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez also made it possible the dissemination of cinema, and it has reached the level it currently enjoys in the Latin American region.

The Icaro International Film Festival is a space that celebrates the art of audiovisual filmmakers from Guatemala, Latin America, and all over the world.
