A large group of heads of State and Government, vice presidents, foreign ministers, and other ministers, arrived in Luanda on Sunday to lead their countries’ delegations to the event, which will conclude with a declaration on Tuesday.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and European Council President Antonio Costa were among the figures who arrived in this capital to participate in the summit, which is expected to include delegations from 42 African countries and 26 EU nations.
The summit, which will be held in the new Protocol Hall opened to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Angolan independence, will have as its theme “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism.”
Dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Angola’s liberation from colonialism and the 25th anniversary of the AU-EU alliance, the meeting will analyze the progress made to date and pave the way for the next three years.
