Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that recent statements by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi over Taiwan undermined the necessary foundation and atmosphere for trilateral cooperation.
During a regular press briefing, Mao underscored that Beijing expects Tokyo to address China’s concerns, retract its erroneous statements, and demonstrate sincerity through concrete actions.
The spokesperson indicated that China has repeatedly reiterated its firm stance against Japanese statements that violate the spirit of the four bilateral political documents governing relations between the two countries.
Additionally, she pointed out that Tokyo should clearly, fully, and publicly express its commitment to the one-China principle.
Mao recalled that, in compliance with the 1972 Joint Declaration, Japan acknowledged the government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China and expressed “understanding and respect” for the stance that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory.
