The publication capitalizes on Cubans’ passion for the sport and the upcoming World Cup, to be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, to promote the idea of players and participants traveling to Cuba during their breaks from the tournament.
A copy of the magazine, available in Havana, uses the sport as a pretext to highlight the advantages of the travel industry in Cuba.
It states that, yes, you read that right, for the World Cup to be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, Cuba is preparing to play its best, through tourism.
The report, written by Julio Debali (director) and Jose Aguilera, adds that while everyone knows Cuba has very little in the way of football, and the sport isn’t the island’s main focus, Cubans’ passion for it is growing, and they follow it closely through their media, especially television.
But the idea of winning the World Cup isn’t precisely about football; it’s about tourism, they emphasize, referring to Cuba’s travel industry.
The island will give all fans of each team the opportunity to win this World Cup, to win it in enjoyment, in sensations, to have their best vacation ever, to win it because it will be their best trip.
It’s obvious that there are days of waiting between games or matches for a national team, and that’s the key, insists Mercosur Magazine, when they urge readers to take a trip to the most beautiful island in the Caribbean and forget about the sargassum, the insecurity, and their worries.
