It also deplored the “repeated attacks on UNIFIL positions, the latest of which threatened the physical integrity of the Spanish contingent, a series of actions that represent a serious escalation.”
The release also expressed “deep concern over Israel’s unilateral decision to build a wall within Lebanese territory, violating the Blue Line demarcation, defined by the United Nations, and thus violating Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Elsewhere in the statement, the Spanish Government expressed its call for Israel to comply with its obligations under international law and with the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.
The source stated that the best guarantee of security and lasting peace in the Middle East is the effective implementation of the two-state solution (of Palestine and Israel).
Finally, Spain reiterated its commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and stability and the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, reaffirming its support for the UNIFIL mandate, whose work is essential for achieving these objectives.
