International NGO calls for more aid for Gaza

Ramallah, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) The International Rescue Committee (IRC) warned on Wednesday that aid levels for the Gaza Strip are alarmingly low, despite the signing of a ceasefire last month.

The IRC issued a statement on the onset of winter and rains in the territory, a situation that will worsen the humanitarian crisis there, caused by two years of Israeli aggression.

The organization underscored that with homes and infrastructure destroyed, overcrowded shelters, and critically limited access to drinking water, fuel, and electricity, hundreds of thousands of people are at risk of dying from the cold weather.

It recalled that the United Nations reported children and infants dying from hypothermia last winter.

Bob Kitchens, Vice President for Emergencies at the IRC, affirmed that “winter in Gaza brings with it a new struggle for survival for people who are recovering from more than two years of violence.”

The IRC reiterated its call to the international community to facilitate “rapid, large-scale, and unimpeded humanitarian access to reach all those in need” in the Gaza Strip.
