For several weeks, community doctors have been reporting cases of the disease brought in by security guards who returned infected after a failed contract in the Democratic Republic of Congo, although the Ministry of Health (Minsal) has not commented on the matter.
Yesterday, the president of the Medical Association (CM), Ivan Solana, pointed out that with just one case, authorities should declare an epidemic, given that the disease was previously unknown in the country.
Several days ago, and reiterating his request, the president asked the Minister of Health, Francisco Alabi, to take a position on the recent revelations of imported and locally acquired malaria cases, which were reported by medical associations and journalistic investigations, including one by the newspaper La Prensa Grafica.
As the Medical Association, we ask that Alabi issue a statement to either rule out or confirm this and outline the next steps, Solana emphasized.
In statements to radio YSKL, he advocated for establishing sanitary cordons if the presence of the disease is confirmed, in order to prevent its spread.
