Prior to the opening ceremony, several activities are planned, including a flag-waving event in Plaza Anibal Pinto and a visit to the Excarel Cultural Park, the site of a former prison and now an architectural landmark for recreational purposes.
In addition to the delegates, authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, neighborhood associations, social and labor organizations, and friends of Cuba are invited to the opening ceremony at the Insomnia Theater.
On Saturday, participants will meet in committees to analyze the work carried out since the previous meeting in Valdivia and to discuss measures to strengthen support for Cuba, which has been doubly affected by the US embargo and the recent passage of Hurricane Melissa.
They will also address next year’s activities in anticipation of the centennial of the birth of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
Members of Solidarity Movement groups from Coquimbo, La Serena, Santiago, Talca, Valdivia, Ovalle, Concepcion, Valparaiso, and other cities will attend the event, Sary Olmos of the Chilean-Cuban Friendship House in Viña del Mar told Prensa Latina.
