Mexico marks seven years of transformation

Mexico City, Dec 1 (Prensa Latina) Seven years after the inauguration of former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the process of change he initiated continues at present in the discourse and actions of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Lopez Obrador, who was the founder of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), took office on December 1, 2018, to begin what he called the fourth transformation of the country’s public life.

The former president stated that the three previous major transformations were the struggles for independence beginning in 1810; the Reform movement in the mid-19th century; and the Revolution, which began in 1910 with Francisco I. Madero’s call to arms against Porfirio Diaz.

The fourth of the fundamental changes in the nation’s history ended 36 years of neoliberal administrations, during which, according to politicians and analysts, privatization was promoted, and an elite, at the expense of the vast majority of citizens, was privileged.

Under the principle “For the good of all, the poor come first,” as well as the defense of sovereignty, republican austerity, and the fight against corruption, Lopez Obrador guided the country along a path that reduced inequality and lifted 13.4 million people out of poverty in six years.

Mexico’s first female president again invited citizens to join her at this capital’s Zocalo square on December 6 to mark the 7th anniversary of the beginning of the Fourth Transformation.
