Cuba and Vietnam celebrate 65 years of brotherhood and cooperation

Havana, Dec. 2 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel affirmed that relations between Cuba and Vietnam are based on a long history of fraternity, marked by the mutual admiration between historical leaders Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh. Diaz-Canel expressed so while presiding over, along with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, the political-cultural event commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, held in the municipality of Jaruco, Mayabeque province.

The event also served to inaugurate Vista Alegre photovoltaic solar park, donated by the people of Vietnam as part of a solidarity initiative comprising four 20-megawatt plants, according to the Presidency of the Republic.

The president emphasized that 2025 “will be remembered as a fruitful year in economic relations” between the two countries, and expressed his gratitude for the Vietnamese people’s gesture of solidarity, which will allow for the allocation of resources to the energy, water, and education sectors.

For his part, the Vietnamese deputy prime minister reiterated that Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with his country during critical moments in its struggle for independence.

“Solidarity and cooperation have become an invaluable asset between our nations,” he affirmed, and described the donation of the solar parks as “a sincere gift from the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam to the brotherly people of Cuba.”

At the ceremony, Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes symbolically received the donation, and at the conclusion of the ceremony, Diaz-Canel and Ho Quoc Dung laid the cornerstone of Vista Alegre park.
