The diplomat added that Moscow took note of the recent interview given to The Financial Times by Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of NATO’s Military Committee, who said the bloc’s “preemptive strikes on Russia could be considered defensive actions.”
We consider Captain Dragone’s statement regarding possible preemptive strikes on Russia to be a highly irresponsible step, showing the Alliance’s willingness to continue escalating the situation, Zakharova stated.
We see in that statement an attempt to undermine efforts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Those making such statements should understand the risks and possible consequences, including for the Alliance members, she added. NATO has long made no secret of its true objectives and intentions.
At the same time, the bloc’s leadership dares to accuse Russia of “belligerent nuclear rhetoric,” intimidation, and notorious hybrid attacks without providing any evidence of our involvement.
