Authorities arrest leader of violence in northern Mexico

Mexico City, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) The results of the security strategy implemented by the Mexican government continue to be evident following the arrest of 11 members of a criminal cell, including Roberto “N”, a major instigator of violence in Chihuahua.

The Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection reported that officers were patrolling the town of El Pueblito, in the municipality of Aldama, when they were attacked with gunfire, after which they returned fire.

Once the situation was under control, the officers arrested Roberto “N”, alias “02”, and 10 other individuals linked to a criminal group, while also seizing 11 long guns, two machine guns, two Barrett rifles, three vehicles, various explosive devices, and a drone.

A high-priority target for Mexico, Roberto “N” is considered one of the main instigators of violence in the municipalities of Aldama, Coyame del Sotol, and Manuel Benavides in the northern state of Chihuahua, and is likely responsible for confrontations between rival groups in Ojinaga.

Personnel from the Ministries of Defense, Navy, and Security and Citizen Protection, as well as the National Guard and the Attorney General’s Office, participated in the operation.

As a result of the fight against criminal groups, authorities arrested 37,000 people for high-impact crimes nationwide and seized 300 tons of drugs and 18,981 weapons during the first 13 months of the current administration, which began in October 2014.

The federal administration is implementing a security strategy based on four pillars: addressing the root causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and coordinating with state governments. This strategy continues to yield results, such as the dismantling of 1,614 methamphetamine production labs.
