A statement issued this Thursday by the Italian Foreign Ministry indicates that, in the conversation, Tajani and Rubio exchanged views on the current peace mediation efforts in Ukraine, the crisis in Gaza and the Middle East, as well as the situation in Venezuela.
Regarding the Ukrainian conflict, the Italian Foreign Minister reaffirmed that his government is prepared “to contribute constructively to the process, keeping in mind the objective of guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty and Euro-Atlantic security,” the document states.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, Tajani reiterated Italy’s support for the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Plan to end Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which have already killed more than 67,000 Palestinians, and expressed his hope that it would soon move to its second phase.
Furthermore, Tajani expressed his concern about the increase in settler violence in the West Bank, which, he said, could jeopardize the success of the Peace Plan.
In that telephone conversation, according to the report, they also discussed the situations in Lebanon, Syria, and Libya, on which both foreign ministers agreed to maintain close coordination, as well as Venezuela, which “remains a cause for concern,” given the ongoing US threats against that country.
