Regarding whether she would discuss US incursions in the Caribbean and threats against Caracas during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, the head of state noted that Trump is aware of her position.
“We believe that international law and the sovereignty and self-determination of nations must be respected. I have had the opportunity, when we have spoken on the phone, to tell him this: that Mexico will always support peaceful resolution, a peaceful solution to any conflict,” she emphasized.
“He (Trump) knows our position and, if necessary, we will reiterate it, because it is a position we maintain privately and publicly, and it is also the constitutional obligation of any president of Mexico,” she stated.
The head of the Executive Branch announced earlier that she will meet in Washington with her US counterpart and with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the World Cup draw.
This will be the first time Sheinbaum and Trump have met in person, following several phone calls during a year marked by the Republican’s controversial policies in areas such as immigration and trade.
