With the slogan “Filming Cinema,” the lights will be turned on at the emblematic Charles Chaplin movie theater in this capital, marking the opening of this major event for the country’s film industry.
The festival will feature the Argentine film “Belen,” directed by Dolores Fonzi, which has received positive reviews from film critics.
Until December 14, the festival will screen 222 films, 114 of which are competing for the Coral Awards, the event’s highest honor.
The remaining films will participate in sections such as Latin America in Perspective, International Panorama, Other Latitudes, Environments, and Special Presentations.
Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Festival’s founder and prominent Cuban intellectual, Alfredo Guevara, the event features Mexico as its guest of honor.
Organizers informed that Estudios Churubusco will receive a Coral of Honor award from Mexico on its 80th anniversary.
In addition to the screenings of films in competition, the festival will screen restored films, as well as feature its usual theoretical events, keynote speeches, exhibitions, and the launch of a filmmaking grant for women over 50, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF).
Among the highlights of this 46th edition is the Third Latin American and Caribbean Animation Forum “Juan Padron in Memoriam,” from December 8 to 11, to foster audiovisual students’ participation, as well as learning and collaboration among specialists and scholars in the field.
