Starring veteran actors Mirtha Ibarra (Iluminada) and Roberto Perdomo (Osvaldo), this 2025 production is a highlight in the Latin American Competition section of the event and is based on the play of the same name written and performed by Ibarra.
In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, the actress, who boasts an enviable filmography that includes titles such as Adorable Lies (1991) and Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), explained that the film addresses two fundamental themes: the mistreatment of women and the revitalization of cinema as a space.
We wanted to pay homage to Juan Carlos Tabio (1943-2021), creator of Plaff or Too Much Fear of Life (1988), which is why we titled it Anonymous Neurotic or Without Fear of Life, she noted when the film was still in production.
She commented that the production is full of cinematic references, both national and international, since her character is always seen as the protagonist, as she lives outside of reality, in the world of film.
Iluminada is a young woman from the countryside who leaves home to pursue her dream: to be an actress, the synopsis reveals.
When her ambitions are thwarted, she studies to become an art instructor, but fate ultimately places her as an usherette in an iconic movie theater. Meanwhile, her marriage to Osvaldo and her daily life trigger a neurosis, she added.
