Cuba: Son party celebrates UNESCO declaration

Havana, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) With a great party at Havana-based La Tropical's Salon Rosado, Cuba will celebrate on Thursday the recent declaration of the practice of the Cuban Son as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, coordinated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

With the joy that such a significant achievement for national culture deserves, the “Hoy Como Ayer” project presents “The Great Son Party,” an exceptional concert to celebrate the UNESCO decision.

A press release from the Cuban Music Institute (ICM) and the Artex company states that Thursday’s celebration will take place from 16:00 hours to 21:00 hours (local time) and will be “an authentic tribute to the genre that beats at the heart of the island’s identity.”

The statement indicates that the concert is the natural response of our people: to celebrate with music, dance, and tradition.

The text notes that the UNESCO declaration not only acknowledges the universal value of the Cuban Son as an artistic expression but also celebrates its role as a symbol of resistance, cultural fusion, and joy.

The concert will feature legendary and new Son musicians, who will perform the classics that have resonated around the world.
