In a statement, the group indicated that the events of the previous day, during a peace event held inside the diplomatic compound on International Human Rights Day, were the work of small groups of people paid with the sole purpose of subverting order and disturbing public tranquility.
In this regard, they stated that these demonstrations represent a serious violation of international law governing relations between states and the protection of diplomatic missions.
“It is essential to make it absolutely clear that none of these individuals represent or have any connection whatsoever with the historic, respectable, and peaceful community of Cubans residing in Panama, whose conduct and contribution to Panamanian society have always been exemplary,” the document stated. It also points out that “these actions, promoted from the United States, seek only to sow hatred, division and disinformation among Cubans, serving the same interests that for more than six decades have maintained a brutal and criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade against our people, with the declared objective of suffocating them and generating suffering.”
