Uruguayan brigade packs suitcases for Cuba

Montevideo, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan "Fidel Castro" Brigade is packing suitcases for its upcoming trip to Cuba, where it will join the 31st edition of the South American and Caribbean Brigade in support of the island and against the United States blockade.

In the main hall of the PIT-CNT (National Confederation of Workers) headquarters in this capital, the hustle and bustle marks the pace of preparations for the trip, scheduled for January, as the culmination of a solidarity campaign involving many in this South American country.

There are 51 Uruguayan brigade members, including workers, students, and retirees, all united by the desire to help the people of Cuba.

Shipments of medicines and medical supplies continue to arrive at the headquarters of Uruguay’s unified labor union, and the amount of monetary aid to support the Cuban health system and create openings in the US embargo is also growing. One of the brigade members is Mariana Capurra, a member of the Union of Communist Youth of Uruguay, who, in an interview with Prensa Latina, shared details of the campaign promoted by the Coordinating Committee for Solidarity with Cuba, along with citizens and members of various political and social organizations.

She mentioned the sale of hundreds of raffle tickets at concerts by singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez, the March for Diversity, and other demonstrations and events held here in recent months.

She commended the donation from Crysol, an organization of former political prisoners, as well as the participation of unions, coordinating committees, and grassroots committees of the Broad Front, among others who contributed.

The 27th Uruguayan brigade to Cuba will be hosted by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.
