Cuban parliament condemns naval blockade against Venezuela

Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) condemned the escalation of aggression and the naval blockade imposed on Venezuela.

The parlamentarians expressed their disagreement with the recent act of piracy and maritime terrorism carried out by the US government in international waters, as well as the decision to impose a naval blockade against the Bolivarian nation in order to prevent the free trade of hydrocarbons. These events “constitute a very serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, while disrupting peace in the region,” said the statement.

The actions are in keeping with provocations and aggressions against the South American nation, which have escalated with a disproportionate and unjustified military deployment in the Caribbean, acts which also violate the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation.

They also create a negative precedent for free international trade and freedom of navigation.

“The seizure of the ship, the theft of its cargo and the pretexts used to block oil shipments reveal the true objective that Washington pursues in its action, which is no other than taking control of its immense natural resources, through an increase in the military presence of the United States in the region and with the use of instruments of force, as part of its new strategy of National Security and the Trump Corollary that claims the disastrous Monroe Doctrine”, dictates the document.

Parliament remembered the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, proclaiming that it is still in force and should be respected.

They also called on the peoples of the world to join this condemnation, since it is a duty to mobilize against the threat and use of force against Venezuela in defense of the peace, security and stability of Our America.
