New members of the Cuban parliament take office

Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Eight new deputies to the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, Parliament) took office today during the Sixth Ordinary Session of that body in its Tenth Legislature.

With this act, the assembly has 464 of 470 seats occupied, with a composition of 267 women; 135 of the total are between 19 and 40 years old.

At the meeting, MP Litza Elena Gonzalez expressed her commitment to the country and population of the new members: Vivian de Guadalupe Leal, Yipsy Romo, Oscar Perez-Oliva, Yasel Toledo, Niurka Garcia, Ana Maria Baro and Roberto Javier Manuel.

At the opening of the meeting, which will discuss core issues for society during the day, the president of ANPP, Esteban Lazo, highlighted the complex national scenario in which this session is held, aggravated by the intensification of the US blockade.

In plenary session, the deputies adopted a declaration condemning the escalation of aggression by the United States against Venezuela, and ratified the defense of Latin America and the Caribbean as zone of peace.
