In a video posted on social media, Health Minister David Kershenobich reminded that measles is one of the most contagious diseases, as just one infected person “is enough to trigger outbreaks that put unvaccinated children, adolescents, and adults at risk.”
He noted that both in Mexico and around the world, vaccination has proven to be the most effective tool for preventing transmission, avoiding complications, and protecting communities.
“Getting vaccinated is not just an act of personal protection; it is an act of collective responsibility. Each dose helps to close the door on the virus,” the minister stated, adding that thanks to vaccination, the nation has been able to control the disease for decades.
“But this achievement,” he warned, “needs to be maintained and strengthened in the face of current outbreaks.”
The Ministry of Health emphasized that the injectable vaccines are safe, free, and available at all health units.
Measles is characterized by symptoms such as fever, conjunctivitis, runny nose, cough, and rash.
According to official information, there have been a total of 24 deaths from this cause in the country, distributed among the states of Chihuahua (21), Durango (1), Sonora (1), and Jalisco (1), and none of the patients had a history of vaccination.
