In a statement released by the local press, government spokesperson and Minister of Communications and Media, Patrick Muyaya, stated that the population of the eastern part of the country is being forced to organize demonstrations of support for the insurgents and to reject the pressures demanding their withdrawal.
The statement expressed its rejection of these practices, which it considers to have been implemented during the marches held in Uvira on December 16, Kamanyola on December 19, Goma on December 22, and Bukavu and Sake the day before.
They considered forcing civilians, including women and young people, to participate in demonstrations in support of an illegitimate foreign military presence unacceptable, as well as constituting psychological manipulation of local communities.
The statement pointed out that the use of civilians as human shields or propaganda tools seriously undermines national sovereignty and constitutes a crime against human dignity.
It also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the ongoing peace processes and the protection of the population.
