The request for an investigation, confirmed by the ministry, targets former minister Dion George, his then-advisor and acting chief of staff, Shelton Mollentze, and former personal assistant Traverse le Goff.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Aucamp justified his action as a duty in the face of indications of irregularities.
“I will not shirk my responsibility. I will act against anyone in my Ministry against whom there is preliminary evidence of embezzlement, regardless of the position they held,” he stated.
According to the minister, the complaint arises after the revelation of an unfounded investigation into his private affairs, initiated during the previous administration.
This investigation, apparently motivated by political interests, sought to falsely link him to the lion breeding industry, a sector with which Aucamp has no connection whatsoever.
“The use of state resources for personal or political purposes is illegal. An investigation by the Ombudsman’s Office will determine whether such abuse occurred,” the minister asserted.
