DRC: AFC/M23 rebels accused of kidnapping 42 women

Kinshasa, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) accused the rebels from the Congo River Alliance-the March 23 Movement (AFC/M23) of kidnapping at least 42 women in North Kivu province.

Dieudonne Kasereka, communications officer for the 34th Military Region, stated that armed men abducted 42 women from the central area of Bukombo, in the Rutshuru territory.

According to residents, the women were first tortured.

Their exact destination or whereabouts is difficult to determine, the officer told Radio Okapi station, and added that this is not the first such act attributed to the AFC/M23 rebels.

Kasereka commented that other acts of violence against civilians have been committed in Mushoro (Bwito Chiefdom), Pitango and Musinde (Batangi Chiefdom), and Kahongole (Katsiru village, also in Bwito).
