The Jerusalem Governorate criticized in a statement the Supreme Court’s ruling of that nation of ratifying a decision to evict two families from the Batn al-Hawa area in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
The statement noted that this action represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Rome Statute.
Additionally, it accused Israel of pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing through the forced displacement of the Arab population from this territory, occupied during the 1967 war.
Israeli authorities have evicted, since 2015, some 16 families from Batn al-Hawa, following demands from the Jewish organization Ateret Cohanim, it underscored.
The international community rejects this expansionist policy and considers this territory part of the future Palestinian State.
