Colombian President denounces US bombing of Venezuela

Bogota, January 3 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Gustavo Petro denounced the bombings carried out by the United States against the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, and called on the UN to halt the ongoing aggression.

“They are currently bombing Caracas. Alert the whole world: they have attacked Venezuela,” the president wrote on his official Twitter account, while also making an urgent appeal to the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of American States (OAS) to convene an extraordinary meeting.

Petro specified that the attacks were carried out “with missiles,” representing a serious escalation in the region.

The Colombian president urged that “the international legality of the aggression against Venezuela be established” and stated that, given this situation, “the UN Security Council must be convened immediately.”

President Petro called for a meeting of the United Nations Security Council after powerful explosions rocked the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, early Saturday morning.

He also stated that “the Unified Command Post (PMU) is activated in Cúcuta and the operational plan is in place at the border.”

The Venezuelan government, in a statement, denounced the attacks as endangering lives and violating international law enshrined in the UN Charter.
