Vatican media warns of serious US attack on Venezuela

Vatican City, Jan 3 (Prensa Latina) The Holy See's official news portal, Vatican News, warned about the seriousness of the recent US attack on Venezuela.

A report published by the news outlet stated that “the capital of the Latin American country has been hit by a series of attacks that the Venezuelan president has described as US aggression.”

The bombing, according to the report, affected military installations and strategic infrastructure, such as the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base in La Carlota, the Fuerte Tiuna military complex, the Naval Military Academy in La Guaira, the Higuerote Air Base and Airport, as well as areas like Catia and the 23 de Enero neighborhood.

President Nicolas Maduro declared a national state of emergency and called on the population to mobilize in response to these events, which he described as a “flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the principles of sovereignty and the prohibition of the use of force.”

“Maduro accused Washington of trying to seize the country’s strategic resources, especially oil and minerals, and of attempting regime change through what he calls a colonial war waged with the support of local fascist oligarchies,” the publication adds.

The analysis in this publication, a service of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See, refers to the call made by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, in response to this aggression, for urgent meetings of the United Nations Security Council and the Organization of American States.
