In a press conference, the official affirmed that Colombia will not waver in its defense of internationally established principles and in its efforts to ensure that the solution in Venezuela is reached through dialogue and the autonomous decision of its citizens.
The minister considered that the current situation jeopardizes regional stability and that the root of the entire conflict lies in economic interests and the need for oil for a fossil fuel economy like that of the United States.
Villavicencioo said that it is for this reason that the United States “crosses the red lines of principles and relations between nations, of respect for sovereignty and integrity.”
She remembered the history of interventionist actions by Washington’s leaders “in pursuit of the resources they need for their economies.”
The Foreign Minister emphasized that this is the reason for the statements rejecting any external interest that violates the sovereignty of countries and territories in their quest to control their natural resources.
In her remarks, the Minister stressed Colombia’s unwavering defense of the diplomatic mechanisms established to provide peace, security, and maintain the region declared a Zone of Peace.
