The quake occurred at 11:02 a.m. local time and was felt along the country’s southern coast. No tsunami warning was issued, as seismologists ruled out that risk.
Philippine authorities warned of possible aftershocks and damage in areas near the epicenter, located 47 kilometers from the coastal city of Manay, in Davao Oriental province.
The Philippines is highly vulnerable to these phenomena due to its location in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
On September 30, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake killed 74 Filipinos and forced thousands to flee their homes to escape the devastation.
