According to the president himself, who shared the information on his social media accounts, various groups have backed the initiative, which aims to demand respect for self-determination amid serious threats from US President Donald Trump.
“Raise the Colombian flag at your house now. We’ll see you Wednesday in all the squares of Colombia. Now let’s defend national sovereignty,” he wrote on his account.
The president of the Central Union of Workers (CUT), Fabio Arias, announced that his organization will participate in the demonstration. “Let us make our presence felt to defend sovereignty and democracy in Colombia against the threats of military invasion and the attacks against President Gustavo Petro,” he urged the population.
Also at a press conference held the previous day, Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio emphasized the importance of the call to action in light of the threats made by the United States.
“I believe this is very important because we are all one country that must be united to defend this sovereignty and this dignity, which perhaps we hadn’t seen threatened before, but which is now at high risk, and it is time to act,” she stated.
