A security source quoted by the official SANA news agency reported that the operation was successfully carried out following coordinated and precise work by specialized units of both agencies, within the framework of sustained efforts to combat terrorism and preserve national security.
Interior Minister Anas Khattab specified that the detainee held the position of military commander of the so-called Sham (Levant) province within the Daesh structure.
Khattab emphasized that recent joint operations also led to the arrest of two other Daesh leaders and the neutralization of a third, as part of a sustained escalation of security actions.
The minister assured that the relevant forces will continue to intensify their operations to reinforce security and stability throughout the country.
At the end of December, Syrian security forces announced the capture of several leaders of the terrorist group, including the head of a Daesh-affiliated cell east of Damascus, as well as the neutralization of Muhammad Shahada, known as Abu Omar Shaddad, who served as the so-called “governor of the Hauran region” within that organization.
