In a statement, the NGO affirmed that the country flagrantly violates all international conventions on children’s rights.
They suffer extremely harsh detention conditions, including deprivation of adequate clothing and blankets in the winter cold, severe malnutrition, excessive overcrowding in cells, as well as deliberate medical neglect that threatens their lives, it emphasized. It also warned of the widespread prevalence of infectious diseases due to the lack of hygiene and the lack of availability of adequate treatment or medical care, which has a disastrous impact on their physical and mental health.
Waed considered these practices to constitute systematic torture and held the Israeli authorities responsible for the safety and lives of the Palestinian minors.
Riyad al-Ashqar, director of the Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies, revealed this week that Israeli security forces arrested more than 600 children in the occupied territories last year.
The expert warned that with these actions, Israel is attempting to negatively affect their psychological and physical well-being and create a weak and fearful generation that will hesitate to resist the occupation.
