Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing is maintaining communication with the parties involved to bring an end to the conflict.

Guo recalled that Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone conversations with several counterparts to exchange views on the regional situation.

Wang Yi emphasized, at the press briefing following the annual session of the National People’s Congress, the principles of respect for sovereignty and the political settlement of disputes.

China’s special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, is conducting diplomatic visits in the region.

Beijing believes that prolonging the conflict benefits neither side.
