Cuba ready to deepen cooperation with Cambodia, Diplomat says

Phnom Penh, Apr 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Ambassador to this capital, Milena Zaldivar, affirmed that her nation is ready to continue deepening cooperation with Cambodia as an engine to boost bilateral ties.

Zaldivar underscored, “We renew the commitment to stimulate, promote, and expand alliances in trade, tourism, and investment, including academic collaboration programs and medical training, within the framework of a very promising high-level diplomatic relationship.”

The Cuban ambassador made these remarks at the opening of a joint photo exhibition with the Kampuchea Press Agency (AKP), which highlights key milestones since the establishment of diplomatic relations on April 15, 1960.

The diplomat stated that each of the exhibited images “reveals the deep roots of a relationship built on political will, mutual respect and understanding, and devoted to the non-alignment principles, cooperation for development, and complementarity.”

She highlighted, among other things, those commemorating the presence of Cuban doctors in Cambodia beginning in December 1979, when they arrived with the mission of helping to revitalize the healthcare system, as well as the subsequent medical brigades that also provided their services, contributing not only to saving lives but also to offering hope.

Sports collaboration in boxing and volleyball, sports that enjoy enormous popularity in this country, has brought Cambodian athletes to the forefront, generating profound national pride, he noted elsewhere in his speech.

He emphasized that Cuba is committed to strengthening cultural ties as a common ground for bringing our peoples and their realities closer together.

Zaldivar also alluded to the complex situation her country is currently experiencing, imposed by more than six decades of a genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade by successive US administrations and currently exacerbated by the energy siege ordered by President Donald Trump.
