Syria: More than 369,000 refugees return from Lebanon

Damascus, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs announced that an estimated 369,000 Syrian citizens voluntarily returned to their country from Lebanon through several border crossings established between the two nations. The government agency noted that the figure corresponds to the period from early December 2024 to late May and shows a steady flow of families choosing to return to their homeland, taking advantage of the facilities provided by border authorities.

The institution highlighted that entry procedures were simplified to speed uo processing and reduce the financial burden on returnees by waiving fees for luggage, personal effects, furniture, and household goods.

Official data stated that between January and May 2026 alone, about 150,000 Syrians returned from Lebanon, accompanied by some 6,700 vehicles loaded with furniture and family belongings.

The Syrian General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs added that its teams continue working to ensure smooth transit at border crossings and provide the best possible conditions for returning families to facilitate their resettlement and stability in the country.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) previously informed that more than 3.4 million internally displaced Syrians and refugees have returned to their places of origin.
