In a drawn-out press briefing last night, in which she only stated her position without taking questions, she said, “So far, there is no winner in this contest,” and added that, therefore, “it will be a long time before we know the outcome.”
“It would be irresponsible to define the runoff based on a sample, such as the quick count, which uses approximately 1,000 polling station reports out of the more than 90,000 ones nationwide,” she added, seemingly annoyed that runoff polls had placed her in first place until Sunday.
Addressing her campaign staff, she asserted, “Every single polling station report needs to be counted. Whatever the result, we will recognize it and urge our opponent to do the same.”
In the Ipsos poll, Sanchez registers 50.3 percent and Fujimori 49.7 percent, while Datum reports 50.14 and 49.86 percent, respectively, but they consider it a dead heat because the difference is below the margin of error.
