During an event marking National Defense Day, Diaz-Canel met with members of the Punta Brava Zone Defense Council and commended the efforts to coordinate functions designated for both peacetime and wartime.
The president noted that this approach transforms defense zones into management hubs that not only prepare the population for defense scenarios but also address residents’ daily needs.
Discussions covered population alert and protection measures, as well as the work of the economic-social group in handling issues such as pension payments and support for vulnerable individuals.
Diaz-Canel called for making the most of available land and expediting its allocation to applicants, while also expanding the use of areas suitable for crops and livestock farming.
During the event, Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, recalled that Punta Brava was one of the pioneering areas for the Urban Agriculture Program launched by Cuban Revolution leader Raúl Castro.
