The Uzbek legislative body stated that the Law on the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage, which was concluded at Vienna on May 21, 1963, was discussed and approved at its eighth plenary session.
The Lower House of the Uzbek Legislature had previously approved this law in late May.
Uzbekistan’s joining this convention will allow the republic to implement international standards regulating liability for nuclear damage, and a system of insurance and compensation mechanisms in the atomic energy sector.
Additionally, Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be expanded, and the implementation of promising projects within that agency’s programs will be intensified.
The Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage was adopted on April 29, 1963, and was opened for signature on May 21 of the same year.
