FMV said it awarded contracts for a total amount of more than 525 million dollars to ammunition manufacturers Nammo and Rheinmetall Denel Munition.
The Swedish Ministry of Defense said Tuesday that the orders include a considerable amount of artillery shells and represent the largest investment in this type of ammunition since the 1980s.
The head of this ministry, Pål Jonson, stressed that it is a crucial investment for the security of Sweden and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The contract with Rheinmetall Denel Munition – a subsidiary of Germany’s Rheinmetall and South Africa’s Denel – provides for the supply of shells and propellant charges for Archer self-propelled howitzers, for four billion Swedish kronor (421.7 million dollars).
Deliveries of projectiles will begin in 2025 and continue in 2026 and 2027.
