The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club criticized the measures, which affect both visits to prisons and meetings during court hearings.
Since the beginning of the war in Gaza in October 2023, several lawyers revealed that they are not allowed from conveying greetings or family messages to their clients, the institutions emphasized in a joint statement.
They remembered that after the start of the conflict, the lawyers’ visits were suspended, but after many efforts and complaints, the process was resumed, albeit with difficulties.
The Prisoners’ Information Office reported last week that some 10,800 Palestinians are incarcerated in Israeli prisons, including 450 minors and 29 women, the highest number since the Second Intifada, the national uprising that occurred from 2000 to 2005.
However, it clarified that this number does not include citizens captured in the Gaza Strip, a territory under Israeli fire since October 2023.
The unprecedented increase in the number of deaths in these facilities confirms once again that the Israeli prison system implements a policy of slow killings, they stated.
