Pedro Orlando Perez, director of the Havanatur Varadero branch, emphasized that the event is a celebration attended by entire families, especially Mexicans, among the main foreign attendees.
The opening ceremony tomorrow includes a parade along the city’s boulevard, adjacent to the prodigious stretch of beach, renowned worldwide for its beauty.
So far, nearly 600 athletes have been confirmed to participate in the competitive sessions on Saturday and Sunday, a spectacle of endurance and technique in open water.
According to the program, the competition will begin on Saturday on the beaches of the Barcelo-Solymar-Arenas Blancas hotel complex, with gender-specific events in the 750-meter, 1.5-kilometer, and 3-kilometer distances.
In the afternoon, the Sports Festival will take center stage at the 37th Street pool, with women’s, men’s, and mixed-gender relays.
On Sunday, the elite distances of 5 and 10 kilometers will be swum, considered the highlight of the event. The partial awards ceremony will close out the day’s competition before the official closing ceremony at night.
In the previous edition, Mexico dominated the elite distances.
